The Troy Area School District Foundation Board has announced that Robert Hettich, Troy High School class of 1951, will be this year’s inductee into the Foundation Hall of Distinguished Alumni.

Hettich's family will receive the honor on his behalf during a student assembly at 10:00 a.m. December 12th in the high school’s Memorial Auditorium. Alumni and the general public are invited to the event. A reception in the lobby will follow the program.

According to biographical information provided to the foundation, Robert (Bob) excelled academically at Troy High School and as an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, and baseball.  After high school, he attended Lafayette College on a football scholarship.  Bob enlisted in the US Navy following college and served as a Medic on the USS Forrestal.  After returning home from the Navy, Bob started Hettich Roofing and Siding and ran this successful business in Bradford County for 47 years.  While working, raising a family, and serving the community, Bob also played fast pitch softball for the Calkins-Vickery Team in Troy as the team pitcher.  This team became both Pennsylvania and New York State Champions.

Bob served on the Troy and Towanda School Boards for more than 25 years and also served as the Troy Area School Board president.  As president, he led the development of the new elementary school model and building of TECE.  He was also president of the Bradford County Education Association, which designed and constructed the Bradford County Vocational-Technical Institute in North Towanda.

The Troy Area School District Foundation was founded in 1999 to support academics at Troy Area School District and to assist Troy students K-12 and beyond. Some of these projects are: scholarships for graduates, mini-grant programs for K-12, early childhood literacy projects, financial assistance to all students taking advanced placement exams and dual enrollment coursework, Distinguished Alumni Awards, updated alumni class lists, and other special projects such as the reconstruction of the Taylor Street Alumni Gate and the grand piano at the Memorial Auditorium.

Donations help the Foundation carry out these missions. Any amount is welcome and may be designated for a particular program or activity. Donations are accepted through: online-www.troypafoundation.org, by mail, TASD Foundation 68 Fenner Avenue Troy, Pa 16947 or at an event. All contributions are tax deductible.
