The 20th annual Troy Foundation Golf Tournament was in full swing on Friday, June 20th at the Corey Creek Golf Club in Mansfield, PA. On this picture perfect day, 23 teams competed in 18 holes of heated and leisurely golf competition. The 4-person teams were arranged in a shotgun start for a California scramble where the teams played best ball on their tee shots and then each golfer proceeded to play their own shot for the remainder of the hole. The top two scores were counted towards the team total. On this day the grand champions were a team consisting of Ryan Allen, TJ Howe, Austin Allen and Will Gowin with a winning score of 129. Aside from the 18 hole competition, players also competed in various other challenges to win prizes including: closest to the pin competition, longest drive, putting, skins and more!
The Troy Foundation Golf Tournament, founded by former Superintendent Robert “Bob” Grantier (and played in his memory), is the largest annual fundraiser for the Troy Foundation. The funds raised by this tournament are distributed annually to support various scholarships for students as well as provide funding for K-12 mini-grants that assist Troy teachers in providing unique and enriching experiences for their classrooms beyond the curriculum. Over the course of 20 years, the Foundation Golf Tournament has raised $450,000 of the nearly $900,000 given in support of Troy students and educators.
This year’s tournament committee was spearheaded by Troy Alumni Jim Morse. The Tournament was staffed by members of the Foundation and assisted by several helpful members of the Troy High School FFA under the leadership of educator Brooke Ostrander. Also of note are the generous donations from various sponsors including: Gannon Associates, Rural Net, Cummings Lumber, Hoover Hardware, Leona Meat Plant and others that helped to make the tournament a success and provide prizes to the winners. Mr. Morse thanked all of the volunteers, sponsors and participants for making the event such a success and closed the afternoon by announcing next year’s tournament date for Friday, June 19th, 2026 and that is open to anyone who would like to register a team.
